Luke 8
8:2. Nowhere in Scripture is there any evidence for the slander that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute.
8:3. Proper nouns such as Chuza are pronounced with a K sound (in both Testaments).
8:8. This verse hints that Jesus repeated his parables and other teachings many times. This clears up the difficulty that some make over the fact that the same and similar stories appear in different circumstances in the gospels.
8:10. If you gain insight and understanding, you should thank God for it. It is not a natural ability of fallen man, but a gift of grace extended by the patience of God.
8:11-15. As an example of the above principle, some glean from this explanation of the parable that a saint can fall away and lose his salvation. It really teaches the exact opposite. A heart prepared by God unto fruitfulness and perseverance is the real mark of God’s elect (15). Cf. 1 John 2:19.
8:16-18. Paradoxically, salvation is not a passive thing. Man is responsible. If you have light, use it. Take care how you listen. The more spiritual insight you gain, the more you will be given. Use it or lose it.
8:40-56. Cf. Mt.9:18-26; Mark 5:21-43. See notes at Mark.
Vv.52-53 are meant to explain v.51. Of course it was the crowd outside who were laughing at Jesus, not the disciples and the parents.
