1 Corinthians 16
16:1. The collection; cf. Acts 11:27 ff.; 24:17; Ro.15:25-26; 2 Cor.8:1 ff.
16:2. The first day of every week; apparently already the regular worship day for Christians (cf. Acts 20:7; Rev.1:10).
16:13-14. The qualities of strength and fidelity to the truth, with all done in love, are the attributes needed in every effective church. Without firm faith and strength, love degenerates to a weak sentimentality. Without love, we destroy one another, and betray the faith (see chapter 13). Real love is neither weak nor ineffective.
16:21. Cf. Gal.6:11; 2 Thess.3:17; etc. Paul often used a scribe (cf. Ro.16:22), but he usually wrote a greeting at the end in his own hand to prove the letter had indeed come from him (see 2 Thess.2:2).
16:22. Maranatha (O Lord come) is Aramaic.
